made by the dogon people of mali, each piece is hand-stitched and hand-dyed from natural indigo (indigofera plant). the cloths are dipped in dye vats repeatedly over a period of days or weeks, imbuing rich color. indigo is revered in traditional west african culture, prized for it's rare beauty, nobility, and spirituality; babies swaddled in indigo are said to sleep peacefully.
